from John Pilblad
During my years on cameras I (Bernie) spent one summer attached to OBs, during a “BBC Great Summer of Sport” in 1976. OBs wasn’t my favourite world – I was definitely a studio man – but one person I really envied was John Pilblad. He was the man on the hand held, doing all kinds of interesting stuff all over the place.
In the last few months (2007), I’ve been lecturing at a local university and one lecture I was asked to give was on my own career. I looked out all my old photos and found about five. Not much for 40 years in tv. Again I envy John Pilblad, because he worked in places where photography wasn’t banned.
Here’s a blast through his career, from the Marconi Mk3 to every handheld you can think of….
