BBC Abbreviations, Initials and Jargon

BBC Tech Ops Abbreviations

The BBC historically was (and maybe still is) known for its abbreviations and acronyms,
hundreds of them!

Whether EIEIO was apocryphal or not we don’t know, but gathered together here are a large number of definitely real ones.

ACGAS, HIGNFY and SROTY are perhaps familiar – the latter on the labels of 2″ tapes filling trolleys around the TC basement at each year’s end for a long time.

But what about COOBE or CHAR or SODS?

Here they all are gatherhered all together… a collection of all the known abbreviations, initials and jargon which are contained in and used in the posts and pages which make up the BBC Tech Ops website.

This lists Abbreviations known to date    02.03.2024
