Dreek says…
“In 1960 I was the proud owner of an Austin 7. It had appeared on a couple of Billy Cotton Band shows as a prop with Bill at the wheel. When the crew 3 rally was mooted I thought that my Austin 7 was not up to the competition with the modern cars depicted in the film so I did not take part. However later in the year I was seconded to Manchester together with Paul Kay, I think , for the summer months to allow the Manchester cameramen to take annual leave. I could not be separated from my car so I drove it to Manchester where I later sold it, with the radiator filled with Radweld. I thought it may not make the return journey.”
“Here are some stills from the Dickenson Road studios of the time. The show was Top Town, presented by David Jacobs and produced by Barney Colehan, the team was from Jersey.”
I had a great summer in Manchester, no rain and a lot of experience including OB’s. Here’s a picture from The St Ledger race meeting at Doncaster.
