Gary says –
Just last week I bid on some standard-8 home movie on Ebay and won it. It’s three two-hundred foot reels, and the seller had absolutely no info on when the film was shot etc.
There’s a BBC OB unit featured in it. See attached photos – not exactly brilliant, I know, I did them on the ‘fly’.
I originally thought, when I saw it was a regatta, that it would be Henley, but on looking at the film more, it obviously isn’t. As you can see by picture no.5, it took place on an estuary rather than a river itself.
I don’t have a date for it, perhaps the camera in the shots might be able to help us?
There is another short sequence in the film that I didn’t have the stills camera ready for. It seems to show a couple of guys recording sound only (no camera at all in evidence). Maybe they were from the natural History Unit recording some riverbank sound?
Anyway, let me know what you think.
Also, if anyone would like to borrow the film and try and do a decent transfer, then by all means, no problem at all. I’m afraid, for this film, I can’t afford Telecine rates!
