I know that many people will have visited the annual Audio Fairs in the Hotel Russell in the late 1960s and 1970s.
One of the most popular demo sound-tracks was this piece by Edward Elgar recorded in Worcester Cathedral.
Sir Edward Elgar Ave Verun Arr. Robert Van Beringen
Many years later when working in Worcester I visited the Cathedral shop and was dismayed to find that they didn’t have the EMI recording used at the Audio Fairs but a much later version. It is still my favourite version of ‘Ave Verum’ although Mozart’s isn’t bad!
I have added two more totally different versions to show that it doesn’t matter the format, the music is still valid!

The trouble is – new brooms come along and want to sweep away what went before, whether that’s a good thing or not. We found this with our Guild recordings, though some still survives on the Guild Music label.
