Does any body else find the persistent purple blob to the upper left on the “6 News” weather rather annoying?
What is it and why do we have it? I gather the weather is on "back projection" – it’s not "CSO" like BBC South?
Then it will be gone for a week or so and then it reappears ! There is another white flare above it but that looks like a back light lacking a barn door? "L D" people… any ideas?

I threw this at today’s (03/03/2017) director of the 1 and 6 O’Clock News. He wasn’t aware of it and promised to check it out. Here is his reply:
“…We’ve got to the bottom of it Peter….it’s one of the red globes in the newsroom that’s reflecting through the studio glass and off the weather plasma.
Sadly there’s nothing I can do to remove it …”

Perseverance pays off. (13th Feb 2017)
I got in touch with a friend who is now in News studio lighting.
It appears that the offending red globe (which you can see in the background of the swooping newsroom shots) had a 100w halogen bulb in it whereas its companions had low wattage CFCs.
Bulb changed, problem gone away.
Thanks, Tony, for pointing it out.

"… There is another white flare above it…"
There have been a large number of shows of different genres recently which have had loads of lens flares – not just one here and there, but multiple flares on the one picture. I feel like screaming at the telly = "get a … lens hood!"
