Landrovers

Sara Newman

I went to a Landrover Rally today and I remembered having a long conversation with a colleague on cameras who had a passion for Landrovers. Now I own one I can  completely understand.  Better late than never!

BBC OBs could never have existed without Landrovers!

One time our management tried to replace them with some Japanese thing so we drove it so badly etc and trashed it so it was back to Landrovers!

When I got the job in OBs, I had to borrow a mate’s one to re-learn double de-clutching and we had to do a driving test around Acton with a big mobile generator on the back and learn to reverse it with the gennie on!

You could certainly get to some interesting places with one. Here  are two pics of Dave Jorgensen and me with ours at the OS triangulation point on top of the Long Mynd in Shropshire back in June 1968.

Just like Shropshire – lot of Welsh ancestry in the populace!

And while we are on the subject of cars ….

Gary Critcher

There may be a few of you into old cars, too? Vintage Bugattis, Amilcars, MGs etc.
I’m thinking pre-WWII here.

I’ve just come across a little 7 minute video I produced about 2007 of an Amilcar rally in South-West France.  We were down there to interview an ex-Formula 1 guy and stumbled across the rally on the Saturday morning.

We were staying a few miles outside of Bergerac but the rally was in Monpazier in the medieval town square.  I just pointed and shot – you couldn’t really go wrong when being presented with a line of exquisite Bugattis, MGs, Amilcars and the like.

I’ve not put either music or commentary on it,  I just like to hear the sound of the cars etc as they arrived.
