Loud Singers and Loud Speakers

My knowledge of mics stopped with the 4033, 4021 and 4038, of course, but can you hear a difference with different individual "machines" ? Mind you,  having seen the likes of tempedy tempedy divas like Shirley Bassey hurling her mike to the floor, I shouldn’t be surprised.

I hope she was charged for it out of her appearance fee! I remember, years back in the TVT – might have been “The Billy Cotton Band Show” –  Cliff Richard was appearing, and he had to switch from a chat on the boom to a hand mic for his number.

There was no cut-away available for a sound assistant to run in with the mic, so Cliff suggested that we throw it to him! Whaaatt! Abuse of BBC property!

Anyway, making sure that the cable was secure to the mic, it was hurled around someone’s head and launched like the Olympic hammer at Cliff, who caught it perfectly and went into his song!

Giving Ms Bassey a 4033 as a hand mic would have been fun!

We haven’t done Loudspeakers for while. particularly the really big grey (or natural) wooden ones with a nice glowing valve amp at the bottom in the trolley part (solid state Quads are so boring). perfect for dumping scripts and tea cups.

Do you mean one of these?  (Joke)  It’s 3 inches high, has a 1Watt amplifier running off 3 AAA cells which are recharged via croc clips on the handles. There is a ‘PA Fader’ on the back. I’m thinking of a smaller one with an iPhone speaker!

…you really need the wheels to make it authentic, plus, of course, the STB box! My worst Stewart Morris moment was behind a real one.
