I have just discovered from BBC News where I was fifty years ago – sound recordist at Jodrell Bank, with Granada TV, Ford Zephyr estate car and three-man crew. There to report on first ever pictures from the Russian moon lander.

Video recorder in back of the estate was 405 line (monochrome) helical-scan Ampex, with vidicon camera – used for local news only.

As far as I remember, we arrived back in Manchester too late for the news and so it was never used. A pity, because no other TV company had this advanced ENG kit at that time…
