I’m sure it seemed like a good idea at the time, but even as a young lad, I remember how long it seemed to take from David Jacobs pressing the button to the 45 being selected, placed on the turntable, the arm moving across and eventually dropping onto the vinyl so that, presumably, the Gram Op could actually play the disc!

The few I worked on in the mid 1960s always had Denise as the Gram Op. We did two shows back to backāone live and one recorded. She always played the “discs” off tape and, I seem to remember, booked a prep day for the transferring of same.
