I was working on "The Spy Who Loved Me" – Roger Moore’s third outing as 007.

There was often a need for some background action, so any crew who could be spared for the shot were press-ganged. I had to chase a pretty girl along the beach – she was the wife of the focus puller, and well worth chasing! On the third take, I slipped and sent a shower of sand over someone.

My boss enquired as to how long had I been the ‘beach bully’!

On those occasions, to keep everything right, we were handed £20, but there was an understanding that it was put behind the bar of our hotel, so the rest of the crew who could never take part could have a drink.

Various unidentifiable bits of me have been seen in a couple of the Bonds!

On another film I was asked to do a back of head shot in bed with the lead actress, as they needed a short hairstyle – I fitted the bill, but refused because I knew I couldn’t stand the subsequent ragging from the sparks and scene boys!

Happy days!
