"Poldark" – the original version (1975 to 1977)

Poldark Mk 1

Tony Crake

“Poldark” and Angharad Rees..

Remember the Big Fight Scene when Ross comes back unexpectedly whilst the old geezer is throwing crockery all over the place and makes the baby scream its head off…?  When it was transmitted there was quite a bit of "Jam the Switchboard" and "Letters to the Papers". That was my daughter Sarah , who fully recovered  and is now 41!  (2015)  The Director was just setting up for another "go" when I put a stop to any further nonsense.

Philip Tyler

I did Poldark MkI.

One scene I remember, as I was on the boom, was the one where the place gets trashed and set on fire. One of the pieces on the set was an antique glass fronted cabinet which was supposed to be ‘spared’ during the rampage. Except the director gave the stuntmen a ‘pep’ talk during dinner and told them to ‘go for it’. Well they did: antique cabinet became pile of matchwood – oops!

I was still quite ‘new’ and on another episode while recording a scene the director starts screaming “boom in shot!” Dave Heddon, bless him, said in a very loud voice, “I think the cameraman has taken up astronomy.” Sure enough the shot showed a sizeable chunk of studio grid.

Quite enjoyed my time on Crew 9, it was where I learnt to drink like a fish!
