Familiar Face(s)

Geoff Fletcher

I came across this photo of WW2 fighter pilots in their crew room in Autumn 1940y. Does anyone else see a familiar face, albeit a more youthful version?

The same picture is used in:
Battle of Britain Pilot: The Self-Portrait of an RAF Fighter Pilot and Escaper
by George Barclay, where it is described as pilots at North Weald in late 1940.

Could it be Raymond Baxter facing camera, 4th from the right? I believe he flew Spitfires during WW2. An officer and a gentleman if ever there was one.

Roger Bunce

Could it be the foreground Vinten tracker, in this still from 1959?

Here’s a clue.

Compare this photo – derigging at TV Theatre, 8 Dec 1964 – with the pilot sitting under the blackboard right of frame and take off about twenty years. He was a fighter pilot in WW2 and flew both Spitfires and Hurricanes at various times, so it might be him.

Bill Jenkin

I know that’s Pete Ware.
