Mike Winser

Alan Taylor

I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Winser on 11th August.

As far as OB drama was concerned, he was one of the main driving forces behind it and of course was a BAFTA winner too. He and I worked together on a number of prestigious dramas and was always excellent to work with. He got on well with the rest of the crew, directors, actors and all the other departments.

He had been in poor health for a while. Janet and I had a most enjoyable lunch with him in March . Although there were some limitations to his physical movement, his mind was as sharp as ever and we laughed a lot. We discussed taking him out for a gourmet meal, which was one of his great pleasures and something he was very keen to do, but sadly his deteriorating health got in the way.

It’s impossible to think of Mike without also thinking of his wife Wendy ( actress Wendy Williams ). She would occasionally join him when he was on location. It was always a delight to see the two of them together. The loving bond between them was obvious to all.

Mike will be greatly missed.

Albert Barber

He was one of those special people who was always kind generous and helpful towards making a production work smoothly.

I both admired and liked him very much.

Part of crew working on Snowtime Special, Leysin , Switzerland 1978 Picture courtesy of Lois Bale, probably taken by Geoff Rathbone.
