from Mike Harrison
Mike with a Marconi Mk4 camera – “a play called ‘The Scapegoat’. 1964. I think it was a very funny comedy starring Peter Vaughn.”
When I (Bernie) was still at school and watched TW3, I thought these were the business. It was seeing the crew with them that persuaded me that I didn’t want to be a pilot after all (took another 25 years for that!).
Sadly the actual operational experience wasn’t, like many operational experiences, quite as enthralling. The lens change handle was too long for quick changes, and the focus was spongy.
Never mind – I still get a buzz when I play with one at IBC!
Mike on Compact, – “TC 2 about 1961.”
What ever happened to glossy soaps?
“Reg Poulter and a lad called Jim on a Hercules crane on a period drama in TC1. Approx 1964.”
A well-known senior cameraman, who presumably hadn’t yet been on his two week BBC management course, tended to hand this TS chit to members of his crew who complained. Can’t think what it meant, personally….
A memo from Frank Clarkson. Wonder why he never actually signed them?
And the one that said Mike was a good chap and could be on the BBC staff..
