Gleneagles, The various ends of Mrs F’s friends and Pickwick Papers

From Les Thorn

“The OB crew for the Double Diamond golf tournament at Gleneagles in September/October 1974. The fact that I have copied it from a projector and screen has not enhanced it, but you can still make the people out! On the left is Alistair (Mitch) Mitchell, at the back is Chris Penny, on the right is Cam Sup Dave Gautier, and my first thought was that Johnny Johnstone was driving, but now I am not so sure. Notice the EMI 2001”

From Jack Rooke

“Taken in Studio A Pebble Mill about 1980 during the production of a musical entitled “The various ends of Mrs F’s friends”. As part of a set change, the large sheet of chequered vinyl seen in the photo was rolled out and predictably would not lay flat, so the crew were persuaded to help by shuffling to and fro until an element of flatness was achieved.

Names on the photo are from left to right:- Unknown, Sallie Taplin(floor asst), Gillian Lynne(director), Mick Murphy(AFM), Pete Edwards, Dave Wilkins, Myself, Phil Wilson, Keith Schofield, Phil Thickett, Robin Sunderland, Andy Meikle(FM), and Keith Froggatt. I remember Gillian Lynne conducting warm up exercises for the cast each day which the crew were invited to take part in but declined”

Pickwick Papers

Les Thorne and Bernie Newnham swung the Nike on Pickwick Papers on which Gillian was the choreographer. She choreographed us too, but the Nike has rather more inertia than a dancer, and we just couldn’t do what she wanted. We had to slow down a bit after we slammed the front end and cameraman (who?) onto the ground rather hard!
