2″ VT, Philips and Marconi Cameras

Rip Scratch

Here’s an advert for the RCA TR70 2″ VT machine, commonly known in BBC VT as “Rip-Scratch” – something for which an edit suite equipped with them was well-known. Good King Memorex, the best ever VT Christmas tape, featured a group performing a song there, which was called – by coincidence – Rip-Scratch

Philips/Peto Scott PC 60 colour camera

Here is the original Philips/Peto Scott PC 60 colour camera at Wimbledon, operated by Selwyn Cox

Marconi Mk7 colour camera

Finally – an ad for the Marconi Mk7 colour camera – bane of our lives for several years, and posed here to minimise the length of the thing. It’s not at all obvious that the lens is about as long as the body, or that you can’t reach the normal-sized ped steering ring. The BBC
had to install huge over-sized replacements which made the overall camera size even larger.
