No, of course they don't do as good a task, because they have little skill or experience, but for many purposes it is good enough. Your painter never had expensive, hard-to-obtain equipment, just skill, ability and a willingness to knuckle down to do a decent job. You can't knock much money off any of that, so his prices will have kept up close to living wage basics, or a little better if his work is commended. Dining on board restored Pullman carriages, steam hauled, of course! This was operated by the Bluebell Railway in Sussex. I first became aware of the Bluebell Line when a chap from the next village discovered I was BBC, and asked me to record some sound FX for a slide show. This was in the late 50's, long before home use digital colour cameras and printers. I am a native of the Isle of Wight and learning that the railways there were subject to Dr. Beeching's slashing cuts, wondered if the Bluebell Preservation Society could move over there and turn the Island into a working steam musuem and even run scheduled services. This was not possible as the cost of transporting their carefully restored rolling stock was prohibitive. An awful shame, as a consortium of well-heeled businessmen could have been persuaded. Alan Pegler managed to raise funds to purchase the Flying Scotsman, and even took it to the USA for a promotional trip, although the second venture resulted in bankruptcy. Posted by Daniel Hall. ?========= Good morning, members. I'm currently producing a documentary and am currently trying to trace these crew for a research call. They all worked on the BBC's 1974 transmission of Eurovision: John Tiley (Senior Camera Op), Bill Harris (Film Editor), Brian Whithouse (Postcards Film Editor), Martin Stringer (Graphics), Clive Potter (Engineering Mgr), Tommy Thomas (Lighting), Chris Holcombe (Sound), John Burrowes (Design). I would appreciate very much if my contact details could be forwarded onto them with a request they consider helping me on a research call. I can be found on danielhall at roganproductions.co.uk. Also (of course) anyone else not listed above who was present in Brighton for that fantastic broadcast. Many thanks. ???======== Best Regards Alec Sent from my mobile phone. Apologies for any strange autocorrections... -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
