Somewhere I still have my 1kc (Mr Hertz wasn’t much in use back then!) 1/4” LU tape. Mine (and others I recall were on a spool with just a single cheek. Why was that?

Subject: [Tech1] Audio channel ID and test

Some years ago, I remember an Audio Fidelity disc which had tracks identifying L & R for your system.

Is there a similar test disc (CD or DVD probably, now) which will identify the channels for surround sound?

I think I still have a Canford Audio test cassette for checking line-up levels.

Each Gram Op used to have a ¼” line up tone tape to check the tape decks, but anything like that for playout of TV programmes seems to have been chucked out of the window. There is no conformity of audio levels between the various channels these days. Is there still 1kc tone at the front these days, and if there is, does anyone take any notice?

Those of you who worked in Pres must be grinding your teeth in frustration, as there isn’t any presentation anymore. No pride.
