{"id":6868,"date":"2017-05-05T15:21:14","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T15:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/?page_id=6868"},"modified":"2017-05-05T15:21:14","modified_gmt":"2017-05-05T15:21:14","slug":"the-wrong-type-of-ears","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/the-wrong-type-of-ears\/","title":{"rendered":"The wrong type of ears"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Tony Nuttall<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I have heard some tosh when it comes to &nbsp;Loudness Monitoring, Loudness Monitoring Computer Systems, &nbsp;etc. etc. etc. In this wonder-us world that is equated with the present &nbsp;Sound Delivery System for Broadcast TV &nbsp;Audio with its ingests and pre-prescribed norms etc. etc. Why is it when I sit at home for my pre-prescribed viewing, &nbsp;I have to sit with my finger on the Sound Level of my Remote not only on programme content but on programme inserts, network junctions, channel changes etc. etc.?<\/p>\n<p>Would it be a better solution that programmes are only made for computers to appreciate?<\/p>\n<p>Or do I have the wrong type of ears for the modern type of Broadcast TV experience? &nbsp;They seem to work fine with my radio and with my Film going experience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dave Plowman<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Why indeed. I can listen to R4 all day and never need to alter the level.<\/p>\n<p>On BBC1, for example, I&#8217;ve measured the newsreader on the London local news which follows the national News being 10dB louder (on occasion) &#8211; although no need to measure it as you can plainly hear that sort of difference. More than enough to make you reach for the remote. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also not uncommon to have a level difference between the HD and SD service on progs which haven&#8217;t been made in surround.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alasdair Lawrance<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I agree wholeheartedly about having a finger on the remote, and like so much of the teknikals in my life,&nbsp;<font color=\"#ff0000\"><i>\u201cit doesn\u2019t actually effing work!\u201d<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p>A simple example &#8211; if I e-mail a company from its website, I have no record of what I have written when, unless they deign to reply. &nbsp;I would like a copy to be deposited in my Sent folder, but that apparently is completely impossible. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unless somebody out there knows better\u2026?<\/p>\n<p>It seems most beta testing takes place on an unsuspecting public &#8211; and that\u2019s another thing!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>John Nottage<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I just copy\/paste anything like that into a blank text file, before I click &quot;Send&quot;, then I have a record of what I have sent. That said, I don&#8217;t always remember&#8230; Alternatively, you can do it the other way round: compose your email in a text window, then once you&#8217;re happy with what you&#8217;ve written, copy it to the website email form and send.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Dave Plowman<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If it is an email, copy and paste the address to your normal email prog and post from there?
