Back in the 1970s the Beeb replaced its reliable old RBM colour monitors with Pye ones (see picture of CMCR9 containing same) <\/p>\n

and many mods were carried out to try and improve their reliability as more and more were installed in TVC.<\/p>\n

Eventually an urgent mod came round to stop them radiating at 150MHz – TVC by now having become a hot-spot for this (but no-one in the building had realised it).  Someone reckoned that a radio ham on the White City Estate had complained because the 144MHz Amateur Band had been wiped out in the Shepherds Bush area.<\/p>\n

One of the big screen versions of this telly (an audience monitor maybe?) is preserved for posterity in "The Three Doctors", featuring William Hartnell on it.<\/p>\n
