One of the guys on one of my  \u2018missing tv episodes\u2019 forums has posted these pics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apparently he was watching an old episode of \u201cRandall & Hopkirk Deceased\u201d,  remember that (original) series?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway,\u00a0 in one shot,\u00a0 he noticed a painting on the wall in the background that looked familiar\u2026.he finally found it in an earlier feature film,\u00a0 can you tell me what film it is?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mystery artist is 36 year-old Tony Hancock, at 40:24 into the 1961 film \u201cThe Rebel\u201d (US title: \u201cCall Me Genius\u201d).  I’ve attached a shot of him with another painting, but his greatest masterpiece was, of course, \u2018Aphrodite at the Waterhole\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you remember Irene Handl’s reaction when shown ‘Aphrodite’ for the first time, as Hancock tells her this is how he views women: \u201cOh, you poor thing\u201d –  brilliant!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of Pictures in Pictures….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The very first of the Bond films,   \u201cDr. No\u201d (Beyond cool, at the time), was released at the time that an expensive Goya painting (\u2018The Duke of Wellington\u2019?) was, ahem, removed from its usual place.  The film showed the missing Goya in the villains’ lair!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apropos nothing in particular – an episode of \u201cDr. Who\u201d utilised banks of computers, the ones with spools of tape, hired in.  These came from \u201cThe Billion Dollar Brain\u201d starring Michael Caine.  However, \u201cDr. Who\u201d was transmitted well before the film came out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not as bad as the cheekiness exhibited by the producers of the ‘Carry Ons’ who whizzed into the Cleopatra sets at Pinewood to film \u201cCarry On Cleo\u201d, before they were dismantled! \u201cCarry on Cleo\u201d also nicked a couple of out-takes from the original for crowd scenes of the Roman army. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
