I remember the many shows I did in studio TC1 and in particular encouraging the outer scene door to close to minimise the rumble of Wood Lane traffic. It was a sliding door with  an electric motor \u2013 or was it hydraulic with a handle to pump it along? Anyway, not very reliable as I recall. It was a pig to work and the scene guys didn’t close it unless pressed to do so.<\/p>\n

During my ‘holidays’ on the 7th floor I attended a number of meetings regarding the building of the proposed ‘new Television Theatre’ which was to have the upstage back wall adjacent to Wood Lane where the TC’s current main entrance is situated. There was a requirement for two sets of scene doors. If I remember correctly, the cost was predicted to be a large fraction of a million pounds each to reduce the traffic noise to an acceptable level. Needless to say it didn’t happen, probably for many other reasons and I imagine that it was realised that an OB unit could be dispatched to a West End theatre (or Shepherds Bush Empire) when required.<\/p>\n
