{"id":4333,"date":"2015-07-20T12:56:42","date_gmt":"2015-07-20T12:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/?page_id=4333"},"modified":"2015-07-20T12:56:42","modified_gmt":"2015-07-20T12:56:42","slug":"tc1-bw-405-and-625","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/tc1-bw-405-and-625\/","title":{"rendered":"TC1 B&amp;W 405 and 625"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In late 1968,TC1 had very recently returned to service after being colourised with EMI 2001s. &nbsp;Did TC1 <i>ever<\/i> work 405 lines or was it always 625?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alec Bray<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>TC1 was capable of 405 line TX.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ian Hillson<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>TC1 &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/tvstudiohistory.co.uk\/tv%20centre%20history.htm#studio summary\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span style=\"text-decoration:none;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tvstudiohistory.co.uk\/tv%20centre%20history.htm#studio summary\">Opened in April 1964 with EMI 203\/6 cameras<\/a><\/span><\/font><\/a> and was converted to colour with EMI 2001 cameras in 1968&quot; so I would guess that early on it would have produced 405 for BBC1 shows, maybe even up until&nbsp;March 1968 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbceng.info\/Operations\/studio_ops\/reminiscences\/tvc\/d-mccarthy-tvc.htm\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span style=\"text-decoration:none;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbceng.info\/Operations\/studio_ops\/reminiscences\/tvc\/d-mccarthy-tvc.htm\">when NC1 went 625 and had a converter put on its output<\/a><\/span><\/font><\/a> to feed the BBC1 transmitters. <\/p>\n<p>I joined AP in April 1968 and they had just stopped originating 405 to feed BBC1 &#8211; meaning that you no longer had to change standards and check (mono) camera lineup between BBC1\/2 Tx&#8217;s.&nbsp; The EMI 201 B\/W vidicon CCUs had been modded with those concentric home stereo pots with a 405\/625 changeover relay so you didn&#8217;t need to tweak scans, and things, every time you changed standard.<\/p>\n<p>The TV News studio in the bowels of BH extension still continued the multi-standard tradition though, as it produced inserts for the regional news opt-outs which were still in 405.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Footer --><\/p>\n<h1>&nbsp;<\/h1>\n<p class=\"western\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1061\" src=\"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/ianfootersmall-300x104.jpg\" alt=\"ianfootersmall\" width=\"300\" height=\"104\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/ianfootersmall-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/ianfootersmall.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!-- END Footer --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In late 1968,TC1 had very recently returned to service after being colourised with EMI 2001s. &nbsp;Did TC1 ever work 405 lines or was it always 625?
