A friend of mine (Jeff, a BBC Transcription and Radio man) passed away recently.,  I have been asked to help sort through his effects and have come across a little selection of Dinky  and Lledo models, all depicting BBC vehicles or vehicles attached to the BBC. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m thinking that \u201cRadio Times\u201d van may be the oldest,  any ideas?  I am thinking that the two that are still boxed would be the newest.<\/p>\n

The \u201crecording van\u201d and \u201coutside broadcast\u201d van are Lledo models from the same period as the boxed \u201cRadio Times\u201d (\u201cDad\u2019s Army\u201d) models.<\/p>\n

I think that the \u201cRadio Times\u201d van is a modern Dinky one from the1980s era – none are particularly valuable. The rest are also Lledo apart from the Radio 1 artic and the modern BBC van which are Corgi toys again from the mid 1980s onwards.  Now if you had the original Dinky OB unit with the plastic camera\/cameraman on top in pristine condition you’re almost into 3 figures.<\/p>\n

Just a thing to notice.<\/p>\n

Even on the supposedly oldest ones, the BBC phone number was WELbeck 4468 \u2013 which became LANgham 4468 (which we all remember).<\/p>\n

Now that has been subsumed into some call centre in \u201couter Northumberland\u201d  I wonder what happened to SHEpherds bush 8000?<\/p>\n

The SHEpherd\u2019s bush (743) 8000 number still works, only it\u2019s 0208 743 8000 now of course. Which is interesting as the TV Centre has now closed.<\/p>\n

Also the LANgham no. still works, 0207 580 4468. <\/p>\n

Of course both will put you through to a call centre somewhere in the back of beyond. <\/p>\n
