I just had to buy this 1949ish book on the bookstall under Waterloo Bridge and found the attached. Something for engineers and sound persons alike!<\/p>\n

I\u2019d like to point out the words under the \u201creceiver of the future\u201d bit where it suggests that in future one might be able to control one\u2019s \u201cset\u201d by voice control.<\/p>\n

In my opinion \u2026<\/p>\n

3D is pointless (it has only been pushed by the film studios because it defeats the piraters with camcorders in the cinemas)<\/p>\n

UHD is also \u2018emperors new clothes\u2019 as the human eye cannot resolve images greater than around 2K. Punters will buy it because they don\u2019t know any better. They will then get duped again by 8K and above.<\/p>\n

The broadcasters may well originate some 4K (sport etc.) so they can get better framing by zooming into the 4K image (maybe because the camerachildren have no experience)<\/p>\n

Action replays will only look better if a higher frame rate is used (not higher resolution images)<\/p>\n

Finally it is interesting that in the early days of TV (when camera tubes were flat and CRTs were curved) much work was done to remove the distortion. Now we have flat screen TVs, there is a step backwards to curved ones (in the wrong direction) \u2013 having a concave screen implies there is a \u2018sweet spot\u2019 for optimal viewing position. Great for the living room!<\/p>\n
