It worked out very well for those on AP shifts in BH SWC, \u00a0as of course it was one short\/one long week.<\/p>\n<p>One was allowed 3\/6d for the second meal of the day. (with long studio days at TVC etc, that was most of the time).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BBC_Caff_002.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2212\" src=\"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BBC_Caff_002-300x117.png\" alt=\"BBC_Caff_002\" width=\"351\" height=\"138\" border=\"0\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BBC_Caff_002-300x117.png 300w, http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/BBC_Caff_002.png 351w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you took it in cash, all the 3\/6 was taxed, but a 3\/- LV meant that only the 6d was taxed!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Alec Bray<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The evening meal (or Supper) (or second meal of the day) menu was considerably less extensive: I recall that most of my evening meals were pork pie, chips and beans, with yoghourt to follow. \u00a0And then we are expected to go on live transmission! \u00a0What a lot of us did was to take a handful of sugar cubes \u2013 these were available on the tables at TVC \u2013 and suck these before a show.<\/p>\n<p>Going to the canteen at Lime Grove was unpleasant on wet and\/or windy days, as you had to cross an exposed (now wild, wet and slippery) iron bridge affair from the studio block to the canteen. \u00a0Grimace as the Metropolitan (Hammersmith and City) stock ozoned and groaned their way along the track alongside.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Du Boulay I recently came across this slice of history of menu and prices from BBC TVC cafeteria: circa 1965.
