\n Interesting looking at the salary scales, when I joined 5 years later, in April 1969, my starting salary (at 20) was \u00a3666 per annum.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n A bit more history, when I joined in 1955 my starting salary was \u00a3408 per year.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n By 1979 I was offered \u00a33,600 including London weighting. Night shifts about \u00a37 per night extra (until the start of Breakfast TV when it became \u00a37 per hour overnight TV had far more sway then the Wireless) 15p Lunches Vouchers for meals over 5…\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Ah! The second meal of the day allowance. I recall that if one took it in cash, then tax was payable, but part in LV only taxed on the cash part. Can’t remember the actual figures.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n In the late 60s it was 3 shillings in vouchers (tax free) and 1s and 9d in cash. You got a good meal for that at TC. Lime Grove wasn’t too bad but not much choice. I think that at Riverside and the Theatre we used to eat out as very little to have.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Eating out if working in TVT – one of the caffs opposite did Golden Sponge pudding! If feeling flush, went to Bertorelli’s on the green.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Often took girlfriends out to their Charlotte St venue and maybe to Queensway.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Once in a while, indulged at the waitress service in the TVC block, but mostly a pie and a pint in the Club!\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
