My wife Pauline collected comics when she was about 12.  We’ve had around 300 of them stashed in the loft for about 40 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I well remember the \u201cEagle\u201d comics when I was in primary school (before the 1950s) and it was more expensive than my \u201cDandy\u201d and \u201cBeano\u201d and then the \u201cHotspur\u201d. My best friend’s dad owned a shop and could afford it but when the \u201cLion\u201d came out I got that instead and hoped that my birthday date would come up in their next issue, but it never did! Sadly, my mother got rid of them all, together with all my ‘love letters’ to various girlfriends, I never forgave her! I could have made a fortune by blackmail!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snap. I too had \u201cBeano\u201d and \u201cDandy\u201d then \u201cLion\u201d. My sister had the \u201cSchoolfriend\u201d, a sort of sister comic to \u201cLion\u201d though it was in publication before the \u201cLion\u201d. For some reason, my parents disapproved of \u201cEagle\u201d, so I never had that. Seem to remember it being semi-glossy whereas the \u201cLion\u201d was dull matt. I recall the content of \u201cBeano\u201d and \u201cDandy\u201d more readily than the others though I\u2019ve no idea why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
