The rooms Block D were very small and sparsely furnished. Two beds,two chairs, one wardrobe, a radiator under the single window, a wall light above the head of each bed, and a single overhead room light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practice with Sound<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One day we were mixing between two gram decks.\u00a0 The idea was that you set a 45 or 78 rpm record going on one deck, then, as it was playing, you had to cue up the same record on the second deck so that you could then mix between the two sound sources with no \u201cjoin\u201d.\u00a0 The record was Jimmy Shand and His Band (very popular at one time)(“Eightsome Reel”). It was a very tricky job – \u00a0very little defined differences between the phrases but we had to hit the exact changeover.\u00a0 For light relief we took a feed from The Light Programme – as it was then – to mix to \u2013 only to find that the Light Programme was playing exactly the same record!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
