{"id":11466,"date":"2020-11-20T09:18:39","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T09:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/?page_id=11466"},"modified":"2024-03-11T17:16:32","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T17:16:32","slug":"an-interesting-link-to-the-design-of-television-centre","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/tech-ops.co.uk\/next\/an-interesting-link-to-the-design-of-television-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"An Interesting Link to the Design of Television Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"\n(in connection with Television Centre at 60)<br>\n\nFor the history of the Centre, &nbsp;please see the history of the TV studios in London: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk\/\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span style=\"text-decoration:none;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk\/\">http:\/\/www.tvstudiohistory.co.uk\/<\/a><\/span><\/font><\/a>. &nbsp;\n <br><br>\n\n\nThis is White City in the 1920s. &nbsp;\n<br><br>\nThere are so many features of interest. &nbsp;In the foreground, the Central Line loops around in an anti-clockwise direction into the White City station. &nbsp;The initial part of that curve is still there, but the line then turns sharply to the right to get to the new White City station and then on past Wormwood Scrubs prison out to Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip.\n<br><br>\nThe White City Stadium \u2013 right hand side, half way up \u2013 built for the 1908 Summer Olympic Games &#8211; looks in reasonable condition. &nbsp;By the 1960s it was in a very parlous state. Athletics were still taking place there but the structure looked in bad condition. &nbsp; The Stadium was demolished in 1985.\n <br><br>\nThe White City Stadium features in the climax to the 1950 film \u201cThe Blue Lamp\u201d. &nbsp;This film starred Jack Warner as PC Dixon, and &nbsp;became the inspiration for the 1955 to 1976 TV series \u201cDixon of Dock Green\u201d, where Jack Warner continued to play PC Dixon until he was 80 years old (even though Dixon&#8217;s murder is the central plot of the original film).
