I wondered if anyone, apart from me, has been reliving their childhood by watching those old adventure series of the 1950s and 1960s, – \u201cThe Adventures of Robin Hood\u201d, \u201cThe Adventures of Sir Lancelot\u201d, \u201cThe Adventures of William Tel\u201d and \u201cThe Adventures of Sir Francis Drake\u201d – which are now (July 2020) being re-shown on the Talking Pictures channel (09.00 hrs weekdays, and various times over the weekend).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much of the nostalgic fun comes from spotting the old character actors of the time, particularly those who became more famous for other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Woodbridge and Ballard Berkeley (the Major from \u201cFawlty Towers\u201d) played a wonderful pair of cantankerous old warriors in \u201cSir Lancelot\u201d, while Frederick Treves played a couple of virtually non-speaking parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leslie Phillips and Douglas Wilmer appeared in a recent \u201cRobin Hood\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roger Delgado is a masterfully villainous Spanish ambassador in \u201cSir Francis Drake\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While, in \u201cWilliam Tell\u201d, Mr. Baines from \u201cThe Onedin Line\u201d played an armourer, and the Captain of the Guard was Peter Hammond – later to become an esteemed drama director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
